OUR ENGINEERED FLOORS
With DACS II, our innovative hand-assembled core, we just made our proprietary DACS technology even better.
When considering the role of an engineered construction for wideplank hardwood flooring, the importance of stability cannot be overstated. As an installed floor goes through the cycle of four seasons, it is subjected to differences in relative humidity that can have a big impact on the moisture content of the wood. These changes in moisture content make the wood want to expand and contract, wreaking havoc on a floor unless it is properly engineered to prevent it.
DACS II is the evolution of our innovative DACS (Design for Advanced Core Stability) technology. The foundation of the DACS II concept is the principle that “stability comes from the core”. Thus, all of CRAFT’s engineered floors are made with a proprietary, hand-assembled core that demonstrates exceptional levels of dimensional stability.

Our DACS II Engineering System is based on solid-sawn components of high quality, structural grade Canadian Spruce with SFI Chain of Custody certification, guaranteeing that our wood core comes only from responsibly managed, sustainable sources.
Core components are hand assembled by skilled craftsmen into an innovative mortise and tenon structure that forms the most dimensionally stable engineered core in the flooring industry. Our DACS II core is then used as the cornerstone of the 2 different engineered structures we use, Prestige and Encore.
Encore Series
5/8” thick, 2-layer solid sawn engineered structure
Our 15mm thick Encore Series uses a structure consisting of a 3.0mm wear layer mounted onto the DACS II core. Encore Series floors enjoy an advantage in their high degree of affordability and in the fact that their thinner construction makes them more suitable for installations where the substrate may not be completely flat.
A. Top Layer: Solid-Sawn Hardwood Wear Layer
Solid-sawn 3.0mm veneer allows for 2-3 re-sandings
True solid plank look with engineered stability
Made from North American hardwood, a responsibly managed renewable resource
B. DACS II Core: Solid-Sawn Core Fillets
Superior rigidity prevents cupping and width shrinkage
Made from structural grade Canadian Spruce that is SFI Chain of Custody certified to be from responsibly managed, sustainable sources
C. Solid-Sawn Side Strips
Contributes to overall stability by sealing off fillet endgrain, thereby reducing changes to core moisture content
DACS II tongue and groove simulate the function and appearance of solid wood flooring
D. Wood Adhesive: Used To Glue ALL Components Together
Highest quality low-VOC wood glue
Formaldehyde free
Compatible with regulations governing air quality including GREENGUARD Gold certification, demonstrating the most stringent level of low emissions available, California’s CARB 2, and Japan’s F Four Star standards
Prestige Series
3/4” thick, 3-layer solid sawn engineered structure
The 19mm thick Prestige Series construction offers the ability to match up with thick tiles, thereby avoiding the necessity for transitions.
3/4” PRESTIGE Construction available for Canadian customers only, with 1000 sq ft minimum custom order. Call for options and quote.
Many hardwood flooring manufacturers, especially those that make thin ½” and 9/16” products, use very thin rotary peeled or sliced veneers. This peeling or slicing process can negatively affect the structural integrity of the veneers, and it considerably degrades their appearance. The net result is a veneer that’s typically too thin to be re-sanded even one time, and a wood pattern that can look strange or inauthentic. Given that such thin-veneer flooring cannot be re-sanded, it ends up being “single use” material which negatively impacts its overall lifetime value, and results in a lower ranking from an environmental perspective.
In contrast, the veneers in high quality, long lasting engineered flooring are made by way of the “solid-sawn method”, whereby veneers are sawn in thick layers from planks of hardwood lumber. This process retains the wood’s structural integrity and results in the most natural, aesthetically pleasing grain patterns. All of the veneers used in CRAFT’s floors are solid-sawn, meaning that our floors can be sanded and refinished multiple times, extending the life and value of a CRAFT floor for generations.
